Our CPA firm is committed to supporting great causes and organizations. The “Beat the Odds” Scholarship program presented by the Children’s Defense Fund - Texas is one of those causes that helps courageous students in Houston get a head start on their college education.
For the past several years, I have personally donated to the scholarship that is awarded by the Children’s Defense Fund. I have also participated in the selection committee that carefully reads through each scholarship application to select 10 finalists. It is an honor to participate in the selection process and help future leaders make the transition from high school to college.
The Beat the Odds scholarship honors outstanding Houston-area high school students who have overcome tremendous adversity, demonstrated academic excellence, and given back to their communities.
This year marked the 20-year anniversary of the program, which started in 1999 and has remained committed to helping students continue their educational journey after experiencing significant hardship in their lives.
Reading through hundreds of applications over the past several years, I have been overwhelmed by the stories of determination and educational excellence despite adverse conditions.
The Beat the Odds program has now awarded more than a half-million dollars in college scholarships, while also raising funds to support the work of the Children’s Defense Fund in Texas.
Our CPA firm has remained steadfast in continued support of the program. Each year around Christmas time, we make a financial contribution to this worthy scholarship fund on behalf of our clients. It’s our way of saying “thank you” for your continued confidence in us.
Specifically in 2019, we appreciate your support of our firm as we continue to expand our client service capabilities to help your practice thrive. Your support allows us to be involved in programs such as the Beat the Odds scholarship to help recognize and acknowledge incredible personal achievements.
